Maynard Reevers: You will be hard pressed to find any audiophiles who would recommend Bose speakers. In general, they are obscenely overpriced mediocre equipment. Superficially they sound good, but there is very poor midrange ... critical for good sound. Furthermore they are made with inferior components and favour proprietary connections which can make them difficult to interface with other equipment. The bottom line is that you can do MUCH better for less money. See the article at the link for further info.As to other speaker choices ... almost any other manufacturer -- and Paradigm is one good choice. A FEW of hundreds of good brands worth considering include Paradigm, Klipsch, Definitive Technology, Totem, Snell, Boston, Jamos, Polk, B&W, Amperion. See the 2nd link for a starting point on surround sound/home theatre selection.Note that no-one else should be telling you what speakers to buy. Everyone has different taste (in sound, music, aesthetics, etc) and there are! many factors to consider (budget, placement (e.g. room size, desired listening level, location (in the wall, ceiling freestanding), size, efficiency, power handling) so the best approach is to define a budget THEN listen to your types of music on various speakers fitting that price range. Listen to salespeople at good audio shops -- they usually know what they are talking about -- but make up your own mind. You will have to consider the electronics too (DVD or Blu-ray player, A/V receiver (or amplifier), display device (in your case you want a projector)) since to they all interrelate. As to projectors the best advice I can give is ... great choice (BEST way by far to get an in-home movie theater experience) ... but do some reading at the 3rd and 4th links before making any decisions. Again, there are many choices and you need to pick based on YOUR preferences/needs. The last link is to a comparative review of 1080p projectors. If the $2000+ is a bit rich look for a good 72! 0p projector (start sub-$1000).Hope that helps....Show more
Leif Serabia: Everybody hears things differently, so you must make up your own mind here. Balance the quality and features with the cost. If it makes sense then go for it.However, Bose is notoriously overpriced in all of their products. That's not to say Paradigm isn't, but if it were up to me I'd buy anything but Bose.
Rena Pepe: The 2 bose home theater systems (Speakers plus amplifier/reciever) I have seen sounds great. They are a matched system. I personally have 2 different brands of surround sound recievers and 3 sets of surround speakers. Each set of speakers sounds a little differently on the 2 different recievers.. With out mentioning names my ___a_____ reciever sounds better with one set of speakers than it does with my other 2 sets. My ____b_____ reciever one of my other 2 sets sounds best. It's kind of trial and error by listning. For the projectors I say stick with a brand name you have known for being around for years and it should be pretty goo! d. Also look at product reviews in magazines and on the internet....Show more
Herma Ellebrecht: go for the onkyo .If you pull up total harmonic distortion of the Panasonic and Sony it`s 10% and the onkyo is only .9%. That should tell you alot. The sony`s look like the give you more bang for the buc but the lack quality.
