Idell Syed: They should prefer it. Sales tax applies to everyone and so impoverished people have no choice but to pay. Very poor people usually don't pay state or federal income tax, but individuals on the margins will. High property taxes only apply to people who can actually afford to purchase property.
Eliseo Luma: If I wanted to live in NH I'd be mighty upset about the regressive property taxes (though every state has then so they are unavoidable), but I come from a state with higher property taxes and the only reason we have an income tax is for property tax relief so I would hate to see how high my property taxes would be without our income tax.Orange-Everyone pays property taxes, renters may not pay directly to the state but no landlord is going to charge a renter less than the property taxes are on the rented apartment or house....Show more
