My car insurance policy was cancelled due to non payment can my vehicle be towed?

Wilfredo Muldoon: Yes.

Sunshine Holets: Sure can - you are driving an uninsured vehicle which negates the tags. You will also get a nice little fine for having a registered uninsured vehicle - think anywhere up to $1,000.

Tosha Tawney: Only if you are caught driving it without insurance. If it is legally parked until you get the policy reinstated it should not be towed away. The only other scenario would be if you didn't make your car payments it could be repossessed and towed to the finance company yard.

Debor! a Soliani: And by "towed," do you mean repossessed by the loan company? Do you have a car loan on this vehicle? It is a really, really bad idea to operate your car without insurance. If you cannot afford the insurance, you need to just PARK it in the garage, and walk away. Take the bus to work, or ride your bike to work. Or ask a friend for a ride. Once you can afford the insurance, then you can start driving again. If you get into an accident without insurance, that can be a bad situation. We do know what what state you live in, and so we do not know which state laws to apply. If the loan company finds out your insurance was cancelled, they may buy collision and comp coverage only, and add the cost to your car loan payments. But this would not include liability coverage, so this is not a solution. (Only a solution for them.) Your most recent insurance company will most likely send a cancellation notice to your loan company, and that is how they will find out abo! ut your cancelled car insurance. I do not believe they will r! epossess your vehicle since you are the owner. If they did, you could report it "stolen." And they would be charged with auto theft. Depending on what state you live in, there are penalties for driving without insurance. You did not provide any information about your state, so we are unable to be specific as to what is going to happen to you now....Show more
