My car makes a knocking sound when i push the brake.?

Jed Mutone: I don t have a solution here but i have a mk5 astra and i could feel the abs in the peddle when i was just normal braking and now i have a knocking noise when braking and whilst coasting in gear without braking.I am getting it looked at i a day or two so will post the result and probable solition.

Frank Crummell:

Sammy Tabatt: I had a short tap or knock noise when applying the brakes in drive only. I changed the rotors, the calipers, and the pads at the same time. It started after I did this. I found out by jacking up the front end and listening to the brakes (when applied) and (I spun the tires manually mind you) one at a time, by using common sense, I out a screw driver in the small area between the top of the brake pad and the caliper, and found out there was too much travel from the holes that support the brake support pins. I changed the pads making sure to match up the bad pads to a pair of new ones, (with a small diameter brake support pin ! hole). That was the issue. The pads from Advance Auto,(ceramic wearever-about $50), were machined incorrectly. Problem, solved....Show more

Julienne Poplawski: I have a 2000 buick regal, I first recieved a code that said the tcc was stuck. I changed the transmission filter and fluid and seemed to have fixed the stalling problem. Now I have noticed my car will not shift into overdrive. While driving down the road at a speed of 70 to 75, I can shift it into drive and let off the accelerator, put back into od and it will shift into od, but as soon as I press the accelerator it downshifts into drive and stays there. Any suggestions? Please help, can't afford a professional shop....Show more

Giovanna Sherlin: ok my pads are ok. i am pretty mechanically inclined and have done my pads and back rotors back when i bought the car in 2006. I have checked them and they all ! still have plenty of pad left on them. my braking is not reduc! ed at all i can still stop very well in emergencies (had to do it a few times). I think the warped disc or moisture in the lines sound the most probable it sounds like its coming from my front driver side tire. is there any way i can be sure its the warped disc before i go buy a new one. also will rebleeding the brakes remove the problem with the lines. it does not feel like abs its too rough on the car and it happens during normal stopping and doesn't really happen when i push really hard on the brakes....Show more

Salvatore Walls: Some cars have like these guide pin in the brake hub when the brake pads get to low they hit the disc and sound terrible. I would check your brake pads out.

Maryland Gareau: my mom had the same problem in her car. but it wasn't as bad, when she took it to the dealer, turns out her break pads were worn down. Go to a dealer of shop somewhere quickly 2 get it fixed.

Gabriel Realmuto: The preliminary project your are describing fee! ls like worn motor mounts. it particularly is an undemanding and particularly much less high priced fix. The leak is a separate subject, you have a small gasket leak out of your engine. Have a mechanic examine it out in case you may.

Krystal Cordovano: It needs a new door. I don't care about color.

Margy Sandquist: Incomprehensible question

Toney Flaten: Banging Noise When Braking

Melvina Bieri: My brakes have been knocking too.

Norma Marsalis: Is it not your ABS (Anti lock braking system) If you push hard enough to brake to make your wheels lock then the brake calipers will bounce off the discs rather than lock on, thus preventing a skid.If your braking is reduced it could be another problem or grime on the pads. Also if you have had the car a while and never had this before your brake pads would be worn right down.GET IT CHECK OUT NOW! If it's metal on metal with the pads worn down it could cause other problem and prevent your stopping as it w! arms up.If it's a new car or you just bought it from a garage it's prob! ably just the ABS...Show more

Raye Tredennick: Sounds like something is wrong with your brakes and/or rotors. You need to get that fixed ASPA, it's dangerous; especially if an emergency braking situation comes up.

Joeann Hoyt: Sounds like you still have not really fixed the original problem. Aamco, Atlas and Cottman's transmissions will do a free diagnostic.

Georgianna Zollo: It could be a bad sensor. The one that detects the load of the engine vs vehicle speed for the transmission to do the shifting, that is my best guess and I could be wrong. A good diagnostic for the car computer can tell you. Do you have any Engine Service Soon warning yet?

Daria Verfaillie: Sorry to hear about your problems. Unless you're getting other codes now that say different, it does sound like either the TCC solenoid or TCC Pulse Width solenoid is stuck. Unfortunately, the only way to get to these parts is through the side cover of t! he transfer case, requiring you to remove part of the steering and suspension components to remove the side cover. The solenoid itself is easy to replace, but getting to it is a HUGE PITA. I hate to give this advice, but being a home mechanic myself, there are still just some things I'd leave to a professional...this is one of those tasks. Since I assume you're out of warranty having a 2000, I recommend finding an independent shop over taking it to a dealer. They should be cheaper and more flexible with their labor costs. Just try as much as you can to find someone who is very knowledgable with automatic transmissions, particularly this one. Shouldn't be hard since the 3800 engine/4L65e tranny is a widely used powertrain in many GM cars. Best of luck!!...Show more

Codi Manchel: If you can feel it kick back in the pedal it is your ABS. Probably have moisture in your braking system. Have it pressure flushed. This should be done every two to three years in any car with ! ABS.If it makes the car shake it is a warped rotor usually caused by ri! ding the brakes. Have the rotors turned or replaced.Edit:Yes you can check run-out of the rotor with it still installed on the car. Lift the suspect corner and remove the tire and wheel. Place a solid item like a jack-stand right against the outer edge of the rotor without actually touching it. Now turn the rotor and watch the air gap. If it increases or the rotor touches the reference item then that rotor is warped. Also look for blue scoring in one specific area.Try this. Accelerate to 60 km/h (40 MPH) and hit the brakes hard but do not stop. Now accelerate to 80 km/h (50 MPH) and do the same then 100 km/h (60 MPH) and again brake and then to 100 km/h again and brake HARD until you are almost stopped but accelerate again. Now try not to stop for about 1 km and if you have to don't hold the brake pedal down while stopped. Many times this will clear up a warped or contaminated rotor....Show more

Antonia Quinnett: get your brakes checked, slides may b tied up c! ausing premature wear, warped rotors which will cause a knocking sound

Buster Buchko: I've got the same problem, my car a Peugeot 406 2000. i t goes to garage next week. I've just had a timing belt and pump fitted, I hope this will not be as expensive, anyone know how much this will cost. Yan
