Safest convertible car seat?

Reginald Maxi: I have a Britax Boulevard and absolutely love it, but it cost me about $350 with shipping so that is out of the question. I have heard good reviews about the Graco Nautilus and was actually considering buying one for when I travel as I don't want to bring my Britax along. Also the Alpha Omega I hear is a good one. Good Luck!

Donovan Stallons: My daughter has the Graco ComfortSport convertible carseat that I got from target.com for $80. The carseat has really good ratings, so I got it for her. She loves the carseat, and she is very comfortable in it. I like that I can remove the cover to wash it and clean the seat frame (which I've had to do). The seat comes in many different patterns, and I've seen it available at Target, Walmart, and Babies R Us. Each site has user reviews that you can read for each seat. With the ComfortSport, you get excellent quality and safety at an excellent price....Show more

Jene Kostyla: They are ALL safe or they ! wouldnt sell them and they only sell 5 point harness now which is the safest if you pay more then 100 its a waste of money and you are only paying for the name so dont waste your money my little girl has a graco 5 point harness and I paid 50 bucks for it.

Jorge Gerrero: I can name three that i was looking into for my daughter: Britax Marathon, Graco MyRide 65, and Evenflo Triumph Adance. The Britax is about $300 but the Graco and Evenflo are around $150, so you might want to look into one of those. The Graco MyRide 65 has been side impact tested. All 3 have extended rear facing use (it's best to keep them rear facing until age 2). I chose the Graco for my daughter after researching everywhere! It had almost everything the expensive Britax had, at a lower price..and it even has cup holders lol. The thing i liked about the Britax were the HUGS on the harness and they have velcro to keep the harness open when putting your child in the car. I opted to go with the Graco any! way. Now i'm just waiting for her to outgrow her infant car se! at so i can buy it.ETA: These seats will all fit a child until at least 5 years old. My neice is very tall for her age and could fit in her Graco SafeSeat until she was almost 6. The SafeSeat's harnesses are the same height as these 3. A child usually outgrows the smaller convertable car seats (Graco Comfort Sport) around 2-3 years old. Then you're left buying a new car seat anyway....Show more

Blair Abdi: From what I've read, the Britax Boulevard is the safest, but it's over $300. One of the cheaper of the safest convertible seats is a Safety 1st (I can't remember which model, maybe an Avenue or something) and the Graco ComfortSport, I believe.I have the Britax Boulevard CS and I love it. He can stay rear-facing in it up to something like 35 lbs. It's great and easy to get him in and out....Show more

Jonelle Eligio: Go to your local library, you should be able to read consumer reports for free there. I found this first link very educational about what to lo! ok for. The second link looks promising, there's links to different ways to find out if your seat is safe. The only problem I'm seeing is that it's 1-2 years outdated. Britax tends to be the highest rated safety seat overall, but they can be expensive. I mean, I got my Decathlon for about $200. The reason I went that expensive was the seat goes from 5-65lbs, meaning they're using it until they're like 6! Car-seats are only good for 5 years... I'm getting a full 5 years use out of it, and I decided it was worth it....Show more

Porfirio Gartland: First - consumer reports sucks doing carseat installs... they have screwed up the testing more then once and had to retract. I don't have a clue where they come up with some of their recommendations... and I install seats daily. You can go to www.car-seat.org for some opinions based on your car. The safest convertible is a seat that fits your car, your child, and your budget, and that you can use every time correctly. For! under $150 - I would look at the following: For higher weight seats th! at should last you until 4 and 40lbs min by both weight and height: Graco My RideThe "new" Alpha Omega 3 in 1 style seats (also labeled safety 1st, and Eddie Baeur" - these go up to 50lbs in harness (do not get the 40lb harnessing ones))Evenflo Triumph Advanced (biggest difference between models are fabric)First Year's True Fit - you can usually find it on sale - woot just had them for $99 - so keep an eye out there. For a seat that might not last you until 4, but will let you rear face to the new recommended 2 years, and will probably get you to about age 3 in a harness, at which time you can purchase a bigger harnessing seat that can turn into a booster: Safety 1st Avenueabove your price range, I like the new roundabout 50 - it is basically a stripped down version of the britax marathon - but retails at $199 - and it's possible you can do the 20% off sale at Babies R Us right now (they are having a trade in event - you can find out more about it at their website)....Show m! ore

Byron Fortmann: i have the britax roundabout, but if i couldnt afford that, id definitely pick the eddie bauer (sp?) alpha and omega or graco comfort sport! however, just a thought, my hubby didnt want to spend the money either, but moneys no object when it comes to saftey!!! if you think theres a slight chance you can afford it, then splurg, because with the britax you will really get your money worth!!! its the safest, and you can use it for 5yrs! if not, the other two would be the next safest, in my opinion!!!...Show more
